FORWARD Awarded Barnstable County Grant to Study Cape Disability Housing Needs

We are pleased to announce that The Cape Cod Commission, on behalf of the Barnstable County Board of Regional Commissioners and the Barnstable County Economic Development Council (BCEDC), has awarded a $10,000 micro grant to FORWARD through the Barnstable County License Plate Grant Program.

The grant will fund a task force and market analysis to evaluate the need for new affordable supportive rental housing for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and to determine the most effective use of resources in addressing the built environment and service support needs of this population.

The Task Force will focus on the housing needs for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and also look at the housing and other needs of the Direct Support Personnel (DSP), and other workers who serve the Cape’s population of those with disabilities. Among the possibilities underr review are workforce housing and a training/conference facility for use by all disability service providers.

Those interested in the work of the Task Force should contact David Kaplan, Executive Director of FORWARD at dkaplan@go-forward.org.
